Mini Milestone

First 21 Pain Free Pleasant Miles in Months

After the year of injuries I had, this is huge. I even made a friend. The miles were slow trail miles and it was hot ad humid. This horse had one crazy blue eye. Maybe it was blind in that eye. I dunno. I didn't have any food but he came running up to me and stayed with me until I left. It was a therapeutic contemplative solo run. I thought of all that I lost. I had mid life crisis moments. It was cathartic. I imagined that this pony/horse felt my feelings. Do animals know? Can they sense people's moods? I felt like he did.

Next week, I will attempt 18 fast road miles in preparation for Philly.

Sweaty Desert Legs

Good times running in the desert this week.  110 degrees makes for some sweaty legs.  Can't possibly drink enough water.  The lack of humidity is amazing.

Track

I dread track work.  But I also love it.
In the beginning, track is fun. Nice.  You love track.  You think you'll always have faith that track will always give you that high.  But then you race,  and you compete with others and you are disappointed.   Your workouts yielded results for others but not for you. Track did not love you back. You find that track betrayed you. And it takes a while,  to come back to track because you know track will bring you pain. But you still hope.  No matter how much older you are,  how much time has passed, you cannot give up your passion for the adrenaline rush,  the agony,  the ecstacy,  the speed, the heartache and the trail of  blood and tears left behind as you go faster and deeper into the abyss of this addiction.  That's track. You can hear the tragedy and triumph in your lungs as you give this love all you got.   Bring it.

Three Months

Milestone.  It's been three months that I started my journey back to recovery.  Every injury is very frustrating.

But this last one.  This last one lingers and is particularly painful. However,  I can run again. May was difficult,  my body was traumatized but I forced myself to run because it was my relief.  My escape.

As with every injury,  this one will leave a mark. A deep scar that always hurts that becomes my new normal. Sometimes,  it flares up unexpectedly and I grimace with pain. However,   I am thankful that I can find joy in running even during my most difficult times. With each run,  I cleanse my soul and often find answers to my most perplexing questions.  Long may you run.

Well that didn't work

So I saw this and thought yup.  Stick to what you know.  I am finally injury free ( knock on wood ) and I would like to lose a few pounds to get into good racing condition. So I read the book Bulletproof Executive and I started to read the blog and listen to the podcast.  I tried the silly coffee, the MCT oil and guess what that didn't work. I also bought into this whole no bread no carb conspiracy. I remained pleasantly plump .

In trying to get back my fitness after injury, I also tried steering away from my traditional training program to incorporating too much cross training, not enough volume and not enough training specificity. Well that didn't work either. I remained slow .

So I've decided to stick with what I know. If you want to lose some weight , don't eat so much. I don't need to write a book  to tell you that .

And if you want your running fitness back, its pretty simple.
1. track work.
2.Tempo Run.
3. Long run.
4. Cross train. A little.

And there you go. Don't make things too complicated. Try something too trendy that has never proved to be successful for you, and most likely,  it won't work. And this goes for your personal life too. Because the basic rule of thumb is, if this shit doesn't work for you in the past , this shit won't work for you now .  For training , eating , love,  and life.

But that's just me. Run hard. Eat healthy and occasionally indulge. And love with all your heart. Those who deserve it.

Stroller Running Mom

Pushing my baby around up and down  hills and roads was a beautiful and challenging,  loving and bonding experience. I ran until 6 months along when pregnant,  had a drug free birth,  I never had post partum, I only gained 23lbs and lost all of it in 2 weeks and nursed for a year even whilst working full time.   I attribute all this to running!I I even PRd 9 months after birth and BQd 2 yrs later. Ladies, you can do this.

The universe did not  bless me with another but pregnancy and early motherhood was a wonderful time. The 33 hrs of labor not so much but talk about an ultra! So don't be worried about losing fitness. And I know my child now 15, is healthy and athletic ..because I like to think first fond memory was of mom and kid special time while  I pushed him along.

Running Angels

I hope that any angel looking at me is not weeping. I hope he or she is smiling that I am running and healing of all injuries.

I think this is beautifully romantic. It shows how much one cares for another. .

More info for The Fatass

June 6, 7:30 am Manassas Battlefield. This is the first time I'm putting on a race so it seemed appropriate that it's a Fatass  (free) so I'm trying to plan properly. I'm hoping this info helps whoever shows up to run.
